We have a family owned and operated business that provides a wide field of experience with ocean going vessels and has been our livelihood for many years.

Our skills range from seamanship, electricians, dive instructors, captains, salesmanship, carpenters, welders, accounting, computer technicians, restauranteur, banking, culinary and musicians. We also have our own qualified family M.D. At present we have several charter and tour businesses on the Big Island of Hawaii; plus a very popular and busy restaurant in Kona.

My Name is Rory Hogan and I have created this topic to try to get in touch with other yachties. I'm currently working on board a yacht and also trying to write a dissertation/thesis for a science degree.

My dissertation is about how the economic downturn of 2008/2009 has affected the yachting industry in terms of manning/crewing.

Crew Placement Agencies?

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a volunteer crewmember aboard a sailboat and looking to switch to professional in the future. I have all the necessary qualifications (STCW, etc).

I have noticed there are dozens of crew placement agencies out there with fees ranging from thousands of dollars to free. Can anybody provide some information concerning which agencies are good and which to stay away from? I am currently considering Camper & Nicholsons, Global Crew Network, Dohle, World of Yachting, and several others.

seeking college credit for merchant marine qualifications

I have British MCA Chief Mate's license for unlimited gross tonnage and ocean going priviliges with all relevent STCW certificates.

I wish to attend college/university in the USA and seek credit for my seatime and experience in the merchant marine.

Please advise any information about this.
