Engineering License and
applicable certificates appropriate to the GRT, KW power,
HP requirements of the vessel.

References and relevant
paperwork.

Excellent record of safety
and safe operations in the engine room and throughout the
vessel.

High level of experience
working with and maintaining yacht engines, generators, air
conditioning systems, electrical systems, water makers and
water toys.

Experienced in preventative
maintenance & troubleshooting. Knowledge to manage and supervise
engine repairs and general upkeep in the engine room.

Man management skills
to supervise and train engineers' assistants.

Some basic computer skills
and ability to log engine issues, repairs and refits.

Good knowledge of outsourcing
to contractors and shore based repairs when necessary

A yacht engineer's main
function is to maintain the mechanical and electrical operations
of the vessel.

The position can entail
large jobs, and it can also mean fixing small problems such
as a dripping tap.

An engineer must be very
technically minded with the ability to interact with guests.

The engineer will be responsible
for keeping the mechanical side of the yacht running smoothly.

Most yacht engineers have
a formal license but on some private vessels, engineers are
unlicensed, but most are experienced.

An engineer is responsible
for almost everything on the vessel that could break and need
fixing.

This includes everything
from the main engines to smaller pieces of equipment like
food mixers, water makers, refrigerators and air conditioners,
etc. An engineer must be able to trouble shoot and repair
virtually everything on the vessel.

the most sought after crew and can earn as much as a captain.
