Qualifications
& Experience Needed |
 |
|
| |
|
 |
 |
-
Qualifications or previous experience
in childcare or babysitting required.
-
Good references and may need
security & background check-up. Qualifications in child CPR,
First Aid and/or Emergency Care an advantage.
-
Lifeguard or life saving experience,
or swimming certificates may be required.
-
Names and contact details of
previous employers with whom you did Nanny Work, Child Minding
or Babysitting, may be required.
-
Must love working with children
of all ages and be able to entertain and provide activities
in limited facilities.
-
Must be able to cope with long
working days and be safety conscious and alert when children
are in your care.
-
Able to assist in various duties
on the vessel including exterior and interior (Cleaning and
polishing) when requested by senior staff, owner or Captain.
-
If employed as a Nanny permanently
but there are no children on board during a charter, you may
be required to assist the Chief Stewardess or Chef/Cook.
-
If parents of children under
your care want to go ashore in the day or evenings, you will
be required to look after their children and may need to stay
aboard.
-
Building good relationships
with children and their parents may lead to a permanent position
with the family in the future.
-
Your duties will vary greatly
depending on the yacht, the owners' wishes or a family's needs.
-
You may be caring for the vessel
owners' children or occasionally the Captains children.
-
Nanny's come from varying backgrounds
such as Teachers, Teacher's Assistants, Au Pairs and Nurses
Etc, but you must have had previous experience with working
or looking after children.
-
Many Nannies will have had previous
babysitting or nursery experience, or had experience organizing
children's activities.
-
Prior experience of working
on yachts is not necessary, but if the position is a shared
position where you are acting as a stewardess/nanny or deckhand/nanny
then previous experience would be required in most cases.
-
Because of the nature of the
job (Looking after children on board) and because you are
looking after children where there is a potential for danger,
you would be expected to be a strong swimmer with proof of
certificates is required.
-
You should also be prepared
to provide references and may be asked security questions
relating to your background.
-
It is a good idea to have these
references ready and to provide them when applying for positions,
before being asked to provide them.
